Queens Wins First Ever Division II Women's Basketball Conference Championship

Garden City, N.Y. - Tournament Most Outstanding Player Amanda Bartlett poured in 27 points as the Lady Knights captured the East Coast Conference Women's Basketball Championship with a convincing 75-49 victory over Dowling College in Garden City, NY. The championship, the first for the Queens College Women's Basketball program since joining the Division II ranks, entitles them to an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship Tournament.

The seedings for the NCAA tourney are scheduled to be announced tonight at 9:00 pm at NCAA.com.

Janine Maser, who had eight first half points to spark QC early, connected from three point range to put the Lady Knights ahead, 26-21, with 7:18 remaining in the opening half. When Jamie DiChiara converted on one of two from the line four and a half minutes later, QC had run off 13 straight points to take a 36-21 lead.

Dowling made it an 11 point game 1:12 into the second half on a three by Simona Bartoka but would get no closer the rest of the way. QC used a 13-0 run, culminated with a lay-up by Bartlett, to take a 71-41 and blow the game wide open.

Jennifer DiChiara, who scored 17 and pulled down 16 boards, was named to the All-Tournament Team along with MVP Bartlett.

Dowling's Molloy Tubridy put up 16 points leading the Golden Lions' scoring efforts while pulling down 8 boards.  Christie Marrone added nine poings on the day.
