Mercy College SAAC to Support Haiti Relief

Jan 29, 2010

DOBBS FERRY, N.Y. - The Mercy College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be collecting donations on Saturday, January 30, 2010, on behalf of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, to support the relief effort after the devastating earthquakes in Haiti. Collections will take place in conjunction with the men's and women's basketball games, as the Mavericks will host Molloy College. The women's game played at noon, and the men's game scheduled for 2 p.m.

Mercy College will donate the entire proceeds from ticket sales to UNICEF. Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $3 for those under 18, and are free for all Mercy College students. Those who are unable to attend, but would like to contribute, may do so via check, payable to the US Fund for UNICEF. Checks may be mailed to the Mercy College Department of Athletics, 555 Broadway, Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., 10522.

Additionally, there will be 50/50 raffles at halftime of each game.

"The enormity of this tragedy, the incalculable loss of life, and the prospect of a long recovery calls out to the best part of us all to help," said Assistant Athletic Director Dr. Darryl Bullock, who advises the SAAC. "We ask that you be as generous as you can, as we try to help those who need it."

The SAAC is comprised of student-athletes from every Mercy College athletic program. Its mission is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image.

Previous SAAC events have included a Pajama Program and Book Drive, assisting the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Dig Pink, which promotes Breast Cancer Research.
