Mercy College Well Represented at Susan Komen Race in NYC
NEW YORK, N.Y. - On Sunday, Mercy College
Athletics represented quite well in the 2011 Susan Komen Greater
NYC Race for the Cure event at Central Park in Manhattan, N.Y.
Several members from the Mercy women’s basketball, field
hockey and softball teams supported and volunteered along the race
route. They helped Head Women’s Basketball Coach Kelli Dunlay
and Head Athletic Trainer Meredith Pope run the three-mile long
event. Pope crossed the finish line at 31:34, while Dunlay did the
same at 39:38.
"The Race for the Cure is a wonderful event that supports a great
organization. This is the first race that I have ever competed in
and I absolutely loved it. We had a great showing of Mercy
Mavericks lining the course that were great encouragement as I got
to the middle and felt like slowing down a bit," Pope said. "So
many women in our country alone are affected by breast cancer, and
events like this and the support of this great organization brings
us one step closer to finding a cure for something that affects so
many lives. Go Mavs!"
