- Queens' Honeyman Earns Top Pitcher, Dowling's Barnathan Is Top Rookie, Dowling's Celano Earns Coaches' Honors -

 Central Islip, N.Y. - Senior catcher Christopher Irwin of Molloy College and Mahopac, N.Y. has been named the East Coast Conference (ECC) Baseball Player of the Year, headlining the 2008 ECC All Conference Awards as voted by the conference coaches.

Irwin led the ECC in a number of major offensive categories including batting average (.393), slugging percentage (.640), on base percentage (.495), RBI (27), home runs (tied with four), finished second in total bases (57) and was along the top 10 leaders in total hits (35), runs scored (24), and triples. Irwin was nearly flawless in the field, committing just two errors for a field percentage of .987.

Brian Honeyman of Queens College and Flushing, earned Pitcher of the Year honors thanks after a dominant season that included a 6-0 mark in ECC play, a league best 0.94 ERA and he was second in opponent batting average (.175). The league leader in wins over 12 starts encompassing 48 innings, Honeyman posted six complete games, allowed a combined five earned runs, struck out 52 (third in the ECC) and walked 10. He also chipped in with three saves.

Third Baseman Colin Barnathan of Dowling College and Massapequa, N.Y. earned Rookie of the Year honors after a freshman campaign that included a .375 batting average with one home run and 20 RBI. Barnathan placed second in the ECC in slugging percentage (.583) and on base percentage (.460), adding 11 doubles (tied among league leaders) and three triples, and was 11 of 12 on stolen base attempts (third in the league).

Chris Celano of Dowling was named Coach of the Year. Celano guided the Golden Lions to a 28-16 overall record including a 17-10 mark in ECC play in guiding the squad to the ECC championship tournament.

The ECC All Conference First Team included Irwin and Honeyman. Joining them were Bobby Lanigan and Rob Paccione of Adelphi University; Bobby Kay and Mike Sylvester of LIU/C.W. Post; Craig Ross of Mercy College; Keith Kenny, Robert LaRusso and T.J. Greig of Molloy; Evan Okon of the University of New Haven; and John Mazzello and Kevin Connors of Saint Thomas Aquinas College.

The Second Team included Matt Kenney and Mike Scudero of Adelphi; Seth Desautel of the University of Bridgeport; Brian Chenicek of C.W. Post; David Wendt, Eddie Squeri, Chris Caputo, Brent Lotito, and Rich Barry of Dowling; Patrick Walsh of Molloy; Matt Walsh of Mercy; and Vincent Malzahn, Fernando Peralta, Mark Fochesato of Saint Thomas Aquinas.

The Third Team included Dowling's Barnathan. He was joined by Mike Mongiello of Adelphi; Peter Barrows of Bridgeport; Greg Conway of Concordia College; Kyle Walker, Bryan Bonin and Bruce Testa of C.W. Post; Matt Monastero and Chris Piotroski of Dowling; Michael Moras, Jimmy Rivas and Adam Rozum of New Haven; Scott Porter of Molloy; Jamie Quinn of Queens; and Dan McDermott and Mike Aviles of Saint Thomas Aquinas.
