Duran Named Regional Pitcher of the Year; Six Earn ABCA All-East Region Honors

Central Islip, N.Y. - Six East Coast Conference student-athletes were named to the 2009 ABCA All-East Region teams, including Regional Pitcher of the Year Gabriel Duran (Dowling).

Duran, who has tied a Dowling single season record for wins, has a 9-2 record with a 1.45 ERA, which is good for 4th in all of Division II. In 80.2 innings, he has struck out 79 batters and leads Division II in Hits Allowed per 9 innings. He has also saved 2 games, including the Golden Lions' East Region clinching victory over Adelphi.

Senior pitcher Keith Couch from Adelphi University joins Duran as a First Team selection.   Couch led the Panthers' pitching staff this season, compiling a 9-2 overall record with a 1.31 ERA.  In his 89.1 innings, he struck out 75 batters while holding his opponents to a .205 average.

Senior first baseman Bill Melillo (Adelphi), senior catcher Ryan Boelsen (Adelphi), junior outfielder T.J. Greig (Molloy) and junior pitcher Pete Budkevics (C.W. Post) round out the ECC representation with Second Team nods.
