Player of the Week

Alex Grubin, Concordia (So., Belgrade, Serbia / Branko Radicevic) - Completed a perfect 2-0 singles week and a 2-0 doubles week during the ECC Men's Tennis Championships. Won at #1 doubles 8-2 against Adelphi in semi-final and 8-2 in ECC finals over Queens. At singles, won at #1 singles 6-0, 6-0 in semi-finals and 6-2, 6-2 in ECC finals.

Rookies of the Week

Robby Scheuing, Queens (Fr., #5 single, #3 doubles, Stuttgart, Germany) - Went 2-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles last week. He posted a 6-2, 6-1 win at singles against Mercy in the ECC semifinals and in the finals versus Concordia, he combined with Ariel Nassim to pick up the Knights only point, a 8-5 win at 3rd doubles. On Saturday, he won 8-0 in singles and doubles against Caldwell.

Mehdi Rhazali, Mercy (Fr., No. 2 singles/No. 1 doubles, Rabat, Morocco / Moulay Youssef HS) - Posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Marcelo Kim of Queens at No. 2 singles in the semifinals of the ECC Championships. He also teamed up with senior Zeki Tukel for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over David Burstein and Fabio Minami.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In the most recent ITA Division II poll (4/2), Concordia was ranked No. 12 and Mercy was ranked No. 45 ... In the most recent East regional poll (3/31), Concordia was No. 1, Mercy was No. 4, Adelphi was No. 6, and Queens was No. 8 and Dowling was No. 9.

Concordia: The 12th ranked Clippers won their 12 straight match in capturing the ECC Men's Tennis Championship over Queens College 5-1 on Wednesday. The Clippers won 2 of the 3 doubles matches. Alex Grubin and Nik Boerger defeated Marcelo Kim and Taylor Crabill at #1 doubles 8-2. The duo of Kirill Azovtsev and Vlad Malkin beat Fabio Minami and Dave Burstein 8-3 at #2 doubles. The Knights tandem of Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim defeated Henning Ruenz and Vito Galatioto at #3 doubles for the Knights only win. Concordia wrapped up the title in singles, with the Clippers winning in the first three flights. The Clippers improve to 16-2 on the season and will await the seedings for the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championships, which will begin in May.

Queens: Queens College advanced to the East Coast Conference Team Championship match by edging Mercy College, 5-4, in Flushing on Tuesday afternoon. Robby Scheuing sealed the deal for QC by beating Christian Cheque of Mercy, 6-2 and 6-1 in fifth singles. Fabio Minami bested Zeki Tukel, 6-4 an 6-4 in #1 singles and Taylor Crabill posted a 6-4, 6-3, third singles win over Yusfcam Koksal to help propel the Knights into the finals. In the finals, QC lost to Concordia, 5-1. The third doubles team of Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassin posted a 8-5 victory, the Knights' only win of the afternoon ...  The Knights aced Caldwell College, 9-0, in Caldwell, New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. With the win, QC completes their regular season slate winners of 10 of their last 12. Fabio Minami, David Burstein, Taylor Crabill, Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim all won their singles matches by the score of 8-0.

Mercy: The Mavericks (4-7, 3-2 ECC) fell 5-4 to Queens in the semifinals of the ECC Championships Tuesday. Freshman Mehdi Rhazali (Rabat, Morocco) posted a win at No. 2 singles and junior Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. Georges) gave Mercy another point at No. 3. Rhazali also paired with senior Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey) for a No. 1 doubles victory, and Prosper teamed with junior Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) for a win at No. 2 doubles.
