Grubin Dubbed Preseason Player of the Year

Central Islip, N.Y. - The Concordia College Clippers claimed all six first place votes to seal the top spot in the 2009 East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Preseason Coach's Poll.  Queens College was slotted the No. 2 pick and Adelphi University follows at No. 3.

The Clippers, who currently boast a No.1 East region ranking and a No. 8 national ranking, finished the 2008 season with a 17-3 overall mark.  Concordia claimed both the ECC regular-season and championship titles and went on to capture the NCAA East Regional as well.  Queens (12-7, 4-1 ECC) also earned a trip to the Regional where they ended their season with a 5-1 loss to Concordia. 

Alex Grubin of Concordia has been named the ECC Preseason Player of the Year.  The junior is currently ranked the top player in the East and No. 2 in the nation by the International Tennis Association.  Grubin capped his 2008 campaign with an 18-2 overall mark at No. 1 singles and a 17-6 record at No. 1 doubles.  Dubbed the 2008 ECC Player of the Year, Grubin went undefeated in conference play and captured the ECC No. 1 singles flight championship.
