Queens Picked to Win Fourth Straight ECC Championship

Central Islip, N.Y. – After three consecutive ECC Championships and four straight appearances in the NCAA Round of 16, the Queens College men's tennis team has been selected as the favorite to capture another ECC title in 2013. Andre Pellegrino, a junior at Queens, has been selected by the conference's coaches as the Preseason Player of the Year.

In 2012, the Knights posted their second straight 20 win season and finished ranked No. 25 in the national rankings.  The squad also went undefeated in East Coast Conference action, clinching both the regular season and tournament championships.

Queens received four out of six first place votes to finish with 34 points in the preseason poll. NYIT, coming off the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history came in second in the poll with one first place vote and 29 points. University of the District of Columbia, 2012 ECC runner-up and also a NCAA Tournament participant in 2012, took home the other first place vote to come in a third with 27 points.

Pellegrino, a 2012 ECC All-Conference First Team selection, is coming off a season in which he posted an 18-4 singles record. He is also currently listed at No. 9 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association East Region Singles rankings on the heels of advancing to the third round of the USTA/ITA East Region Championships in the fall.
