ECC Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Listed in Latest ITA Rankings

Skillman, N.J. - The latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA National Division II rankings were released on Wednesday afternoon, with men's and women's tennis teams from the East Coast Conference making the cut.

In the men's poll, the lone ECC representative is NYIT at No. 19. The Bears jumped a whopping 27 spots from their No. 46 ranking in the previous poll. Currently holding an 11-4 record on the season, NYIT's jump can be attributed to upset wins over the ranked No. 22 Southern Indiana, No. 15 Rollins, and No. 45 Florida Tech on their Spring trip to Florida.

NYIT and Queens College are also ranked in the women's poll. NYIT stays in the same spot as the previous poll, coming in at No. 11. After a perfect record during the fall season in which they won their second straight ECC Championship, the Bears have compiled a 4-5 record during the spring portion of their schedule. However, three of the loses have come against a Division I opponent and two Top-10 Division II foes.

Queens comes in at No. 32 in the poll, a five spot improvement from the previous edition. The Knights have won both of their spring matches so far to improve to 13-2 on the year.

ECC student-athletes were listed in the singles and doubles rankings as well. On the men's side, NYIT's duo of Nicolas Aurrucio and Julio Pulido are the No. 18 ranked doubles pair in the nation. The pair has compiled a 9-1 record to date.

In the women's rankings, two NYIT Bears, Sara Burinato and Claudia Sanchez Gonzalez, are ranked in the Top 50 singles players in Division II. Burinato is first up at No. 21. The ECC All-Conference First Team member is 19-6 on the year. Sanchez Gonzalez is close behind Burinato at No. 27. The ECC Rookie of the Year holds a 14-1 singles mark on the season.

Joining Burinato and Sanchez Gonzalez in the singles rankings is Queens' Yevgenia Plevako. Plevako, also an All-Conference First Teamer, comes in at No. 37 with a 17-3 record. Plevako is also listed in the doubles rankings with partner Aylin Mehter. The duo have posted a 13-2 record together in doubles action this season.
