Flushing, N.Y. - The Queens College men's tennis team proved to be terrible hosts as they upset No. 2 seeded, District of Columbia, 5-0, in the second East Coast Conference semi final from the outdoor tennis courts on the campus of Queens College in Flushing. The Knights advanced to the final where they will take on the top-seeded, NYIT on Saturday.
Queens swept the doubles play as the combination of Adam Pizow and Howard Wong won via default because the Firebirds had a suspended player. The first doubles flight of Andre Pellegrino and Christopher Baron were victorious, 8-4. Finally the team of Younes Hidass and Kevin Burgess took care of business with an 8-6 win.
The Knights needed just two wins heading into singles play and Wong provided one with a win via defalut at number six singles. Baron won the clinching match, 6-0, 6-1 to seal the victory. The other matches were unfinished but HIdass was ahead 6-5 in his match and Pizow was up, 6-4, 4-0. Pellegrino and Burgess were tied in their matches.
The Knights faced the Bears earlier in the season and NYIT was victorious, 8-1. Prior to the start of the match, QC held a brief senior day ceremony to honor the three seniors on the team: Hidass, Baron and Pellegrino.
