NYIT Blanks Redhawks, 5-0, in ECC Semifinal

Flushing, N.Y.  - The NYIT men's tennis team advances to the 2015 East Coast Conference Championship match with a 5-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College Friday morning at the Queens (N.Y.) College Tennis Center. The Bears improved to 11-7 overall with the win, while the Redhawks finished the season 12-9.

NYIT will face Queens (N.Y.) on Saturday, April 25 at Noon in Flushing, N.Y.

The Bears took a 3-0 lead after doubles play. Matej Selecky (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Rafal Charkiewicz (Opole, Poland) defeated Dustin Eshleman and Gui Plentz de Liz at the No. 2 spot, 8-2. David Jiang (Auckland, N.Z.) and Nico Jubera (La Rioja, Spain) then topped Emanuel Rauchle and Rene Torti 8-1 at No. 3 spot. The doubles sweep was clinched by Julio Pulido (Caceras, Spain) and Tomas Lieb (Buenos Aires, Argentina), who defeated Charles Farres and Robert Beer 8-3 at the No. 1 spot.

Jiang then brought NYIT to match point with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at fifth singles before Selecky clinched the victory 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 2 spot. The remaining matches went unfinished.
