NYIT Wins Third Straight ECC Men's Tennis Championship with 5-0 Win over Queens

Flushing, N.Y. - East Coast Conference Player of the Year Julio Pulido (Caceras, Spain) defeated Sharvill Nawghre of Queens (N.Y.) 6-3, 6-0 at first singles to hand the No. 13 NYIT men's tennis team its third consecutive ECC Championship Saturday afternoon at the Queens College Tennis Courts in Flushing, N.Y.

With the win, the Bears improved to 13-7 on the season, while the Knights are 13-5 overall. NYIT advances to the NCAA Tournament and will be one of two regional hosts next weekend.

NYIT won all three doubles matches in order beginning with an 8-4 triumph by Pulido and Tomas Lieb (Buenos Aires, Argentina) over Nawghre and Gabriel Mendez at the No. 1 spot. Matej Selecky (Bratislava, Slovakia) and Rafal Charkiewicz (Opole, Poland) then defeated Ryan Frankel and Federico Toscano 8-6 at the No. 2 spot. The sweep was completed with a 9-8(2) triumph by David Jiang (Auckland, N.Z.) and Nico Jubera (La Rioja, Spain) over Christopher Baron and Lucas Martinez at the No. 3 spot.

Heading into singles play, Charkiewicz brought the Bears to match point with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Toscano at the No. 4 spot just before Pulido clinched the match overall. The remaining singles matches went unfinished.
