NYIT Advances to Fourth Straight ECC Championship Match with 5-0 Win Over STAC

Flushing, N.Y. - The NYIT men's tennis team will appear in their fourth consecutive East Coast Conference Tournament as reigning Champions after defeating St. Thomas Aquinas in the semifinal round Friday afternoon. With the win, the Bears improve to 17-3 overall in their quest for another conference championship title.

Earning the first point for NYIT was the pair at third doubles, Rafal Charkiewicz and Rares Ispas, who were both named ECC All-conference selections Friday morning. They defeated Gilberto Lantigua and Bryan Mannine before the Bears extended their lead to two with a win at no. 1 doubles from the duo of Matej Selecky and David Jiang. Rounding out doubles action was a win at the second flight from partner Tomas Lieb and Alexandre Martinez.

Martinez was able to earn the first point for NYIT in singles play when he picked up a 6-0, 6-0 sweep against Mannine, inching the Bears closer to semifinal victory. Lieb, an ECC first team honoree this season secured the 5-0 victory with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Lantigua.
