Baden Players of the Week

Katie Karpinski, Queens (Sr., SS, Hicksville, N.Y. / Bethpage) - Hit .588 with a triple, four runs scored, six RBI, slugged .750 and had an OBP of .615 in three games. She went 7 for 9 in a DH sweep of Concordia, including 5 for 5 with 5 RBI in the nightcap (12-4 win).

Holly Eringis, C.W. Post (Sr., 1B, Tewksbury, Mass. / Central Catholic) - Hit.500 (8-16) in a 3-3 week with half of her hits for extra bases including two doubles and two home runs. She finished with four RBI, slugged 1.000 and had an on-base percentage of .500. She also continued her solid defense with 48 putouts and three assists.

Baden Pitcher of the Week

Breanne Gleason, New Haven (So., RHP/OF, Bristol, Conn. / Bristol Central H.S.) - Went 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA in 20 innings, striking out 26 while walking just six and tossed two complete games in three outings. Also hit .389 (7-18) and slugged .889 (2 HR, 3 2B) with 5 RBI and 5 runs scored in a 3-3 week.   

Baden Rookie of the Week
Christina Berardi, C.W. Post (Fr., P, Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater-Raynham) - Went 2-1 with a 1.80 ERA over 20 innings last week. Allowed 20 hits and only four earned runs, with 10 strikeouts and three walks. Allowed one extra base in three games and limited opponents to a .256 average.

ECC Notebook

C.W. Post: The 17th-ranked Pioneers posted a 3-3 week, rounding out their southern road trip with a split against St. Leo, losing 5-1 and winning 5-4.  They dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Florida Southern, last year's South Region representative in the Division II College World Series, losing 5-0 in the first game, and then dropping a late inning heartbreaker, 3-2.  However, the team rebounded to win their season and conference opener over St. Thomas Aquinas, sweeping the Lady Spartans by scores of 6-2 and 3-0.  The Pioneers host regional rival Le Moyne College on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at 2:30 p.m., then take on Southern Connecticut on Wednesday at 3 p.m., before traveling north for a weekend road trip against Stonehill on Saturday at 1 p.m., then visiting last year's regional finalist Bryant College at noon.

Queens: Katie Karpinski hit .588 with a triple, 4 runs scored, 6 RBI, a slugging % of .750 and an obp of .615 in the three games she played in this past week. She went 7 for 9 in a doubleheader sweep of Concordia, including 5 for 5 with 5 RBI in the nightcap ... Nicole Mancusi hit .538 in a 3-1 week for the Lady Knights and has 17 RBI in 14 games this season ... Danielle DiGioia has now hit safely in every game in which she has appeared in this season (12) and leads the team with a .469 batting average ... Jessica Hicks drove in six runs in a 12 run second inning and scattered five hits over five innings of work to lead the Lady Knights to a 14-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader against Bloomfield College. Hicks had a bases loaded triple and a three run home run in the Lady Knights second inning explosion.

New Haven: The Chargers split six games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida last week, and now sit at 5-5 overall on the season as they return to the Northeast.  Breanne Gleason led the team last week, hitting .389 (7-18) with three doubles, two home runs, five runs and five RBI's.  Nicole Downs hit .350 in five games last week, while Meghan Walter drove in five runs and Jordanna Borska led the team with 6 RBI's.  Gleason also led the team in the circle, with a 1.80 ERA and a 2-1 record in 20 innings (3 games), including two complete games.  She struck out 26 batters.

Molloy: The Lady Lions went 1-4 for the week with their victory coming on March 19 during their second game against Southern CT. State.  Amanda Havdoglous earned the victory for Molloy.  Nicole Losito had six hits and five RBI, while Erin Rut posted seven hits and two RBI for the week.  Allie Sydor notched eight hits and an RBI and Havdoglous added six hits and two RBI. 

Mercy: The Mavericks (4-7) were 2-2 last week as they finished up their Cocoa Beach, FL trip. Mercy picked up victories against Centenary College (9-0) and Fisher College (18-1) with both of its losses coming in extra innings. Senior Jessica Madick (Tarzana, CA) led the team in batting with a .538 average (7-for-13), and knocked in two runs and scored three. Madick also picked up a complete game two-hit (one unearned run) victory and struck out seven against Fisher College. Batters had a .125 average against her. Freshman Kim Curry (Bristol, CT) hit .500 (5-for-10) with four runs batted in and two runs scored. She also led the team in on base percentage (.643) and stole a base. Freshman Stephanie Owsiany (Edison, NJ) batted .417 (5-for-12) with two runs driven in and four runs scored. Freshman Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) led the team in total bases with nine and batted .357 (5-for-14) with three runs batted in and five runs scored. Freshman Alicia Martin (Massapequa, NY) led the team with five runs batted in and freshman Amanda McPhee (Bristol, CT) led the team with two stolen bases and tied for the team lead with five runs scored. Sophomore Stephanie Pereyo (Southington, CT) was 1-1 in two games started (two complete games) with a 0.60 ERA. She struck out 18 batters in 15 innings and allowed only one earned run. The Mavericks will be back in action on Monday at Dowling for a doubleheader and home for a non-conference doubleheader against Post Friday.

Bridgeport: Early Spring weather in New England got the best of the UB softball team last week, as the Purple Knights were unable to play for three consecutive days, so the team has yet to see the field for any action since they have returned from its annual Spring Trip to Florida. Bridgeport softball went 4-8 on its recently completed Spring Trip.  Hannah Larson led the Purple Knights with a .436 batting average in the 12 games, as she hit two home runs and had 10 RBI.  Tricia Lee picked up two wins on the mound for UB on the trip, and she also posted a .405 batting average. This week, Bridgeport is scheduled to open ECC play at STAC on Tuesday, travel to AIC on Thursday, and play at home versus New Haven on Saturday and Bloomfield on Sunday,

Dowling: The Golden Lions had a 1-4 week splitting with Bentley College and falling two games back to back with the Dolphins of Le Moyne.  Taras Wallace led Dowling in their lone win of the week as she went 2 for 3 at the plate with 2 RBI and 1 run.  Alison Gallagher hit her first career homerun in the bottom of the seventh to push the Dolphins into extra innings in the 2-3 loss.  Dowling returns to the field Monday March 24th in their first conference game of the season vs. Mercy.

Concordia: The Clippers lost a pair of ECC games to Queens College 8-2 and 12-4 this past week. Senior Ashley Spose batted .500 in the two games and finished with 3 hits and an RBI. Spose also scored 2 runs. Senior Tara Giralo also had a RBI and collected 2 hits against the Knights. Junior Alex Mazza had a home run and 3 RBI. The Clippers will host Molloy College on Tuesday in their only action of the week.
