Baden Player of the Week

Samantha Yodowitz, C.W. Post (Sr., P/DP, Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) - Hit .320 and drove in seven runs on eight hits, including a two-run home run, while scoring seven runs in a 7-1 week. In the pitcher's circle, she posted a 3-1 record with 40 strikeouts, including 14-strikeouts against Merrimack. 

Baden Pitcher of the Week

Julie Schaper, Adelphi (Sr., Pitcher/OF, Warwick, N.Y. / Chapel Field) - Posted a 0.00 ERA and a 3-0 record last week. Had four appearances with three starts and two complete games over 22 innings.  She gave up just six hits, one run, with eight walks and 32 strikeouts. In a 2-1 win over C.W. Post, she gave up just two hits and one run, unearned while fanning 13. She also tripled and scored the game-tying run.

Baden Rookie of the Week
Christina Berardi, C.W. Post (Fr, P, Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater-Raynham) - Recorded a 3-0 record posting a 0.43 ERA. She surrendered just one run in 21 innings with two shutouts in three complete games. Against Dowling, Berardi tossed a two hit shutout (3-0) with eight strikeouts.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In the most recent NFCA Division II national poll (4/2), C.W. Post was receiving votes.

CW Post: C.W. Post posted a 7-1 record this week, including a 5-1 mark in the conference and 4-0 record at home.  Collectively, the Pioneers batted .308 at the plate and outscored their opponents by a 39-11 margin.  Senior Samantha Yodowitz helped the Pioneers offensively, batting .320 and driving in seven runs on eight hits, including a two-run home run, while coming around to score seven times. In the pitcher's circle, Yodowitz posted a 3-1 record with 40 strikeouts, including a 14-strikeout effort against Merrimack.  The Pioneers will continue conference play with meetings against New Haven and NYIT before closing out the week hosting Caldwell.    

Adelphi: Adelphi finished the week with a 4-2 record, shutting out Post University then splitting with both Bryant University and C.W. Post. Senior Julie Schaper (10-2) went 3-0 on the mound, giving up just six hits and one run while walking eight and fanning 32.  She posted a 0.00 ERA in 22.0 innings.  Schaper allowed just two hits with one run, unearned, with 13 strikeouts, in handing the Pioneers their first conference loss of the season. Senior Diana DiPiano hit .353 on the week with three runs and three RBI. Senior Dely Francisco hit .316 with three runs and five stolen bases. Adelphi returns to action on Monday as they take on Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY at 2:30 p.m.

Molloy: The Lady Lions had numerous cancellations this week due to the inclement weather.  Molloy canceled games against Franklin Pierce and Wilmington.  In addition, the Lady Lions rescheduled their STAC game for Monday, April 7.  In their one competition this week, Molloy split a non-conference doubleheader with Felician College.  Michelle Walsh recorded three hits (two homeruns and a double), two RBI and three runs scored.  Florence Williams picked up the win on the mound as she allowed four hits, two runs, three walks, while striking out three batters.  Amanda Havdoglous had the loss for Molloy but at the plate, she had five RBI on two hits. 

Queens: Bryttne Nelson was 2-0 with a 0.55 era for the week. Her first win of the week came against Mercy, a five hit shutout with five strike outs. Her second win came in relief of starter Jessica Hicks in which she pitched 5.2 innings of two hit ball, striking out three while surrendering one run in a win over 16th ranked Georgian Court. She also hit .286 with an RBI and three runs scored in four games. In the Lady Knights' sweep over Mercy she was three for eight with an RBI and a run scored ... Christy Sanders was 1-1 with a 1.50 ERA and 13 K's in 14 innings. She was the hard luck loser in a 1-0 pitchers duel to Georgian Court, fanning nine while giving up only three hits over seven innings for QC ... in the nightcap versus GCU he Lady Knights exploded for nine runs in their half of the second inning en route to an 11-6 win. The inning was highlighted by two home runs - a grand slam by Katie Miracco and a two run blast by Jillian Rini ... Sara Koumou provided the offense in game one and Bryttne Nelson supplied the pitching in game two as the Lady Knights swept Mercy College, 4-2 and 5-0. Koumou was two for four with two runs scored and 2 RBI's while teammates Nicole Mancusi, Christina Colon and Nelson each were two for four in the opener. Nelson was the star of the nightcap, tossing a complete game, five hit shutout in a 5-0 Lady Knights victory. Christina Colon was two for three in the win.  QC got her all the runs she would need in the third when Hurley doubled, moved to third when Nelson helped herself with a single, and scored on a wild pitch. Nelson later scored on an out made by Koumou.

NYIT: Senior Annel Sanchez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) batted .375 with six hits two doubles, a triple, a homerun and seven RBI as the Bears went 3-2 last week. Sanchez went 2-3 with three RBI as the Bears topped #16 Georgian Court and 2-3 with a homerun, three RBI and a run scored in a 7-4 win over UMass Lowell on Saturday at Georgian Courts "Go To Bat For Breast Cancer" tournament.

Bridgeport: UB lost all nine games the team was scheduled to play last week due to weather. Bridgeport hopes to get back into action this week having been idle since Sunday. March 30th. This week, the Purple Knights are scheduled to travel to Molloy on Tuesday and host Concordia on Friday and Dowling on Saturday.

New Haven: Rain cancelled two series for the Chargers last week, leaving them with just one series on Sunday vs. Caldwell - a split.  A doubleheader with American International was cancelled, while Saturday's DH at STAC was postponed to April 11.  In the two games the Chargers did get in, Meg Brown was 3-for-6 with a solo home run to power UNH to the split.  She also struck out nine batters in a 7-inning complete game effort, allowing just one run.  Breanne Gleason was a hard-luck loser in the first game of the set, allowing just one run in six innings while striking out seven.  Meghan Walter and Nicole Downs both had two hits on Sunday, with Downs driving in UNH's other run.  Downs continues to lead the club with a .371 batting average, and is second to Gleason (13) with 11 RBI's.  Gleason also leads with five home runs, to Downs' three.  Up next for UNH this week: three road series to start (C.W. Post Tuesday, Bentley Thursday, STAC Friday), and then a home doubleheader with Queens on Saturday.

Mercy: The Mavericks were 0-2 last week with both games against Queens College. Mercy had two separate doubleheaders postponed last week. Freshmen Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) and Kim Curry (Bristol, CT) both batted .500 (3-for-6). Curry also knocked in one run and had an on base percentage of .571 to lead the team. She was 2-for-3 with an RBI in the first game of the doubleheader against Queens. Methot had one hit in game one and was 2-for-3 in game two. Freshman Stephanie Owsiany (Edison, NJ) collected a hit in game two and freshman Alicia Martin (Massapequa, NY) smashed a double in that game. Senior Jessica Madick (Tarzana, CA) and sophomore Samantha LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) both pitched complete games for the Mavericks. On the season, Methot leads the team in batting (.462), runs (15), hits (24), total bases (35), slugging percentage (.673) and on base percentage (.509). Martin leads the team in RBI with 12 and has five extra base hits. Madick is second on the team with a .347 average and is tied for second with 17 hits this season. Owsiany is batting .300 with seven runs scored and seven runs knocked in. On the mound, Madick has a 2.82 ERA with record of 2-2. She has struck out 23 batters in 31.2 innings. The Mavericks will be back in action in doubleheaders against Adelphi on Monday and then on Tuesday against St. Thomas Aquinas.

Dowling: The Golden Lions had a 3-5 week, ending with a sweep of Franklin Pierce on Sunday, helped by walk-off hits in both games.  Marcie Bodanzio plated the winning run with a single in the first and Alyssa O'Brien came through with an RBI double in the bottom of the 10th to secure the Dowling victory.  Dowling hosts Queens on Tuesday and closes out the week with conference games at Bridgeport Sat and home against NYIT Sunday.

Concordia: The Clippers lost 2 doubleheaders this past week. Concordia fell to C.W. Post on Wednesday 7-2 and 9-1 and lost to Bloomfield on Thursday 5-0 and 4-3. Senior Tara Giralo collected 2 doubles for the week and had 2 RBI for the week. Senior Ashley Spose also had 2 doubles and junior Alex Mazza batted .273 for the week with 3 hits and an RBI. The Clippers will travel to NYIT on Tuesday and Bridgeport on Friday before hosting STAC on Saturday.
