Baden Players of the Week

Dely Francisco, Adelphi (Sr., OF, Haverstraw, N.Y. / N. Rockland) - Started all games of a 6-2 week hitting .600 (18-30) with 10 runs scored and seven RBI. She slugged .700, had an OBP of .613 and was 8 for 9 on stolen base attempts (setting a new program season record). In the field, she collected 12 putouts with no errors.

Christie Softy, C.W. Post (So., SS, Floral Park, N.Y. / Floral Park) - Hit .433 (13-30) with 12 RBI, eight runs scored and slugged .867 (2 2B, 3B, 3 HR) in an 8-0 week. She went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI against both Bridgeport and Dominican. She went 3-for-5 (3R homer) against Southern N. H. sparking a comeback win.

Baden Pitcher of the Week

Samantha Yodowitz, C.W. Post (Sr., Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) - Went 5-0 with a 0.74 ERA (24.1 IP, 2 ER, 13 H) striking out 21 while batters hit just .153 against her.  She also went .409 at the plate with four home runs and nine RBI. Tossed two one-hit shutouts - against Bridgeport (5 K's) and UMass-Lowell (5 K). She went 2-for-3 (2 RBI, 2 R) against SNHU. Went 2-for-3 (3 RBI, 3 R) against Bridgeport.

Baden Rookie of the Week

Alicia Martin, Mercy (Fr., OF, Massepequa, N.Y. / Massapequa) - Hit .391 with seven runs scored, a home run and four RBI. She had a .440 on base percentage to lead the team and smashed a three-run home run against Bridgeport. Martin was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game two against Briarcliffe and game one versus Nyack.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In the first NCAA Northeast regional top 10 poll, C.W. Post is No. 1, Adelphi is No. 3 and NYIT is No. 4 ... In the most recent NFCA National Poll, C.W. Post was tied for No. 13, while Adelphi was receiving votes.

C.W. Post: The Pioneers, ranked 13th in the latest NFCA poll and first in the Northeast Region by the NCAA, posted an 8-0 week with sweeps of ECC opponent Bridgeport, and non-conference opponents Dominican College, Southern New Hampshire University, and UMass-Lowell.  Senior pitcher Samantha Yodowitz went 5-0 on the week with a 0.74 ERA, batting .409 with four home runs, while sophomore Christie Softy batted .433 on the week with two doubles, a triple, and three homers.  The Pioneers travel to Georgian Court for a 3:30 doubleheader on Tuesday, April 22, before returning home and hosting Queens College on Wednesday, April 23 at 3 p.m.

Adelphi: Adelphi, who received votes in the most recent NFCA Top 25 poll,  went 6-2 on the week to improve to 31-16, marking its third straight 30+ season.   Dely Francisco started in all eight games, helping the Panthers to a 6-2 week.  She hit an impressive .600 on 30 at-bats with 18 hits, 10 runs scored and seven RBI.  She boasted a .700 slugging percentage and a .613 on base percentage.  She also went 8-9 in stolen bases, taking her single-season record to 39, which sets a new Adelphi single season mark. She needs just three more steals to become Adelphi's career leader with 82. In the field, she collected 12 putouts for a 1.000 fielding percentage. Senior Julie Schaper posted a 4-0 record on the mound, with a 1.08 ERA. She struck out 42 in 26.0 innings, allowing 13 hits, with five runs, four earned with six walks. In the process, she notched her 50th career win and struck out her 500th career batter. The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Concordia College.

Bridgeport: The UB softball team went 4-4 last week, so the Purple Knights head into the final full week of the regular season with a 9-5 conference record and a 17-17 overall mark. Junior Amanda Wentz continued her power surge last week, as she hit four home runs to raise her season total to nine long balls. Tricia Lee led the Purple Knights in batting average in last week's eight games, as he hit .391 with four runs batted in. Hannah Larson hit .333 last week with two home runs and seven RBI.  Larson leads the team in batting average so far in 2008 at .371, and she is the team leader in runs batted with 26 on the season.  Wentz is second in RBIs with 25 in 34 games played. Freshman pitcher Dana Amatucci went 3-1 last week, and she leads the team in wins with seven so far this season. Brittany Stenier picked up a win in the first game of a doubleheader with Mercy on Saturday, and she saved game two, as the Purple Knights swept the Mavericks. UB is busy this week play at Queens on Tuesday and at Adelphi on Saturday, plus hosting Nyack on Wednesday, NYIT on Friday and Caldwell on Sunday.

New Haven: The Chargers enjoyed a 6-2 week overall, and went 3-1 in the conference to move up to the fifth spot in the standings. Junior catcher Jordanna Borska led the team at the plate collecting 11 hits and hitting .458. Borska doubled to center field to plate the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning, capping off a three-run rally that helped UNH to a 5-4 win over Merrimack on Sunday. Freshman Courtney Garland led the Charger offense with ten runs batted in along with four doubles on only seven hits. Sophomore Nicole Downs also contributed with a .400 batting average while hitting two doubles and a homerun. UNH pitchers Breanne Gleason and Meg Brown had good weeks' in the circle with both striking out 24 batters. Gleason went 3-1 with a 0.91 ERA over 23 innings pitched and held opponents to a .169 batting average.

Molloy: The Lady Lions went 5-3 on the week with victories over New Haven, Holy Family, Philadelphia and Southern New Hampshire.  They dropped a game to New Haven, Holy Family, Southern New Hampshire.  Amanda Havdolgous earned four wins on the mound, while Florence Williams picked up the last win.  Michelle Walsh batted .407 with 11 hits, three RBI and two runs scored.  Allie Sydor and Nicole Losito each had seven hits, while Losito knocked in six RBI. 

NYIT: NYIT continued to build upon their record breaking win total in 2008 as the Bears went 3-1 last week to improve to 24-13 on the season. The 24 wins are the most in the programs history. The BEars split with St. Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday and Assumption on Saturday.

Queens: Bryttne Nelson was 2-1 with a 2.10 era and 22 strike outs in 20 innings pitched this week. At the plate she hit .278, including two hits and a two run home run in game two versus Dominican ... Katie Miracco led off the bottom of the seventh inning of the nightcap by hitting a pinch hit, walk off home run to give the Lady Knights a 5-4 victory over Adelphi University in Garden City, New York on Tuesday. Nicole Mancusi slammed a two run home run in the fourth inning of game two to break a scoreless tie. Adelphi answered by scoring two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to open up a 4-2 lead but Mancusi blasted another two run homer in the bottom of the sixth to even the score. Bryttne Nelson held AU off the board in the top of the seventh, setting up Miracco's heroics ... Queens College overcame a two run deficit by scoring three in the sixth to win game one of a doubleheader against Post University, 3-2, in Old Westbury on Thursday. Bryttne Nelson started the QC sixth inning rally with a base hit. Katie Karpinski followed with a single but after a Sara Koumou fly out to left, Nicole Mancusi forced Nelson out at third for the second out of the inning. With the pressure on, Danielle DiGioia singled in Karpinski with the Lady Knights first run and Katie Miracco followed by singling in Destiny Ocasio, who had pinch ran for Mancusi, to tie the score at two. Christina Colon then drove home DiGioia with the go-ahead run with an infield single. Nelson closed the door in the top of the seventh to record the win. Nelson struck out 12 while surrendering only one earned run in seven innings of work for QC.

Concordia: The Clippers went 4-4 in ECC action this week. The Clippers lost doubleheaders to Dowling and New Haven and defeated Mercy and STAC. Concordia had to go extra innings in both games against STAC. The Clippers pulled out a 2-1, 8-inning win in game one and rallied for a 5-4 win in the second game over the Spartans. Junior Julie Walsh had 11 hits and 6 RBI for the week. Freshman Jaime Lorenzo and Alexa Rosella finished the week with 12 hits and 10 hits, respectively. The Clippers will conclude the 2008 season on Tuesday, April 22nd at home against Adelphi.

Mercy: The Mavericks (9-24, 2-12) were 3-5 last week with wins against Nyack and a doubleheader sweep over Briarcliffe on Sunday. The Mavericks were led by sophomore Samantha LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) who earned both of the victories on the mound against Briarcliffe. In game one she pitched four innings, allowing only two hits, two earned runs and striking out seven. In game two she pitched a complete game two-hit shutout and struck out nine batters. In 14 innings of work she did not yield a base on balls. She finished the week 2-1 with 3.29 ERA and 16 strikeouts. Offensively, freshman Alicia Martin (Massapequa, NY) hit .391 with seven runs scored, one home run and four RBI. She had a .440 on base percentage to lead the team and smashed a three-run home run against Bridgeport. Martin was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored in the game two against Briarcliffe. Senior Jessica Madick (Tarzana, CA) batted .357 with two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored. She hit a home run in each game against Nyack and had a team-high 18 total bases on the week. Freshman Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) hit .346 with three runs scored and two RBI. She had four doubles on the week and went 2-for-4 in game two against Briarcliffe. On the season, Methot leads the team with a .388 average, 38 hits and a .429 on base percentage. Martin leads the team with 16 RBI and is tied for first with seven doubles. Freshman Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) leads the team with three home runs. The Mavericks will get back to ECC action on Tuesday when New Haven comes to town.
