Baden Player of the Week

Kymira Woodberry, Molloy (Sr., F, Boston, Mass.) - Named ECC Tournament MVP in guiding the Lady Lions to their first ever ECC title. Averaged 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.0 assists over three playoff outings. She registered a double double with 15 points (4-8, 7-9 ft) and 11 rebounds and added five steals in the championship against New Haven. Notched 26 points (10-18 fg, 6-8 ft), eight boards against St. Thomas Aquinas in the quarterfinals, 13 points, eight boards against C.W. Post in the semifinals.

Baden Rookie of the Week

Natasha Pierre-Louis, New Haven (Fr., Forward, Corona, N.Y. / Newtown) - Averaged 10.7 points, 3.0 rebounds and shot .625 from the field as the Chargers went 2-1 last week.  She scored 13 points (6-9 fg) in an ECC quarterfinal win over Dowling, then had 11 points (5-8 fg) in a semifinal win over Bridgeport.  She closed with eight points and five boards in the ECC Championship loss to Molloy.

ECC Notebook

ECC: Molloy will serve as the sole representative of the ECC at the eight-team NCAA Northeast regional this coming weekend. The No. 8 seeded Lady Lions will face top seed and regional host Holy Family Friday.

Molloy: The Molloy College women's basketball team went on to capture the 2008 ECC Women's Basketball Championship with a 76-59 victory over the University of New Haven on March 9.  The Lady Lions defeated St. Thomas Aquinas in the ECC Quarterfinals, 70-60 and then defeated C.W. Post, 51-49 in the ECC Semifinals.  It was the first ECC tournament victories for the program and first post season victory since the Lions played in the old Empire State Conference in 1989-90.  This also marks the first time in school history that any NCAA program has made it to an NCAA Tournament.  ECC Tournament MVP and ECC Player of the Year, Kymira Woodberry had 54 points, 27 rebounds and seven steals during the tournament, while Randi Bender posted 46 points and seven assists.  E.J. Dreyer came away with 19 points, 20 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and nine steals and Lisa Abitante added 23 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists and six steals.  The Lady Lions advance to the 2008 Division II Women's Basketball Championships.  They will travel to Holy Family University, the tournament host for the Northeast Region, where they will play Holy Family in the first round of the tournament on Friday, March 14.

New Haven: It was a bittersweet ending to another successful season for UNH, as the Chargers fell to second-seeded Molloy in the ECC Championship game. Alysia Saunders, who improved her numbers across the board this season, was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts over the weekend. UNH closed out the season 21-9 overall, and posted a 19-1 record in ECC regular-season play. It was the fifth time in the last six seasons that UNH has won over 20 games, including three in a row overall and both years under head coach Jessica Smith. She is now 46-15 at UNH (.754). Lauren Hood, a First Team All-ECC selection, scored 426 points this season (15.2 ppg) and now has 933 in her career. Briiana Rende, who earned a Second Team All-ECC nod, was second on the team at 9.4 points per game this season, and led the team with 37 three-pointers. She now has 98 in her career, third all-time at UNH. She also now has 313 assists, putting her just one assist shy of seventh all-time. Saunders, who averaged 4.3 points and 4.6 rebounds per game as a freshman while playing behind All-American Ashley Hilton, elevated her game this season. She finished at 9.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game while playing just 20.9 minutes per. Helin Marte, another understudy in 2007, stepped forward to become a team leader and averaged 7.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists. Her 137 assists was tied as the seventh-best single-season mark in school history.
