ECC Women's Bowling Coaches Predict an Adelphi Three-peat

West Babylon, N.Y. - Adelphi University, winner of the first two East Coast Conference Women's Bowling Championships, has been chosen as the favorite to win the league once again during the 2017-18 season. Adelphi senior, Rebecca Gotterbarn (Garden City, N.Y.) has been selected as the conference's Preseason Bowler of the Year.

Adelphi, who also starts the season ranked No. 15 in the nation in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Preseason Top 25 poll, was a nearly unanimous selection atop the ECC preseason poll, earning nine out of 10 first place votes for 99 points. In 2017, the Panthers repeated as ECC Champions and finished with a 75-44 overall record. Five bowlers are back from last year's roster including All-Conference selections Katelyn LaRocca and Lena Sorrentino, as well as the reigning ECC Bowler of the Year in Gotterbarn.

Gotterbarn is back for her final season at Adelphi after a standout junior campaign  a year ago. In addition to earning the ECC's top honor, she was an eight-time ECC Bowler of the Week, was named an All-Conference First Team pick for the second straight year, and earned a spot on the NTCA All-America Second Team. Among the highlights of her 2016-17 season was winning the Most Valuable Player award at the Golden Bear Classic and the Molloy Invite and also earning All-Tournament Team honors at five different events. Gotterbarn was among the nation's statistical leaders as well, ranking in the top-10 in the NCAA with a 20.47 overall frame average, a 51.9 strike percentage, and a 20.75 Baker format 10th frame scoring average.

Lincoln Memorial, who finished their inaugural season with a roster completely comprised of freshman as ECC runner-up, comes in second in the poll with 77 points. With their entire roster back along with a few new additions, the Lady Railsplitters begin this season receiving votes in the NTCA Top-25 poll and are ranked No. 6 in the NTCA Division II/III poll.

Felician and Kutztown finish tied for third in the poll with 67 points. Franklin Pierce, who is ranked No. 22 in the NTCA top-25 to start the season, was narrowly behind Felician and Kutztown with 66 points to come in at No. 5. LIU Post, who is No. 6 in the poll, received the final first place vote.
