Player of the Week
Rachel Ray, Adelphi (Jr., Attack, Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) - Tied an Adelphi program single game points record with 10, notching four goals and six assists, in a 22-7 win over Georgian Court.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Lauren Scipione, C.W. Post (Sr., East Meadow, N.Y. / East Meadow) - Recorded her fourth win of the season with a 20-9 win against Bryant. Scipione made five saves in 51 minutes.
Rookie of the Week
Ashley Ferrandiz, New Haven (Fr., M, West Sayville, N.Y., Sayville H.S.) - Led the Chargers with 8 points (7 g, 1 a) along with six groundballs, three draw controls and two caused turnovers in a 2-0 week. She scored three goals versus both St. Michael's and Molloy.
ECC Notebook
New Haven: The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team coninued their 2008 campaign with two more victories this week, keeping their undefeated record intact. They defeated St. Michael's College 14-7 and followed with a 10-6 win at Molloy College to open ECC play. Freshman Ashley Ferrandiz led the Chargers with 8 points, including 7 goals in the two matches. Ashley also contributed six groundballs, three draw controls and two caused turnovers. Her older sister, Mallory Ferrandiz registered five goals, five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Junior Brigid Brady tallied 5 points (4 G, 1A) and four groundballs. Sarah LeGoff and Brianna Kenworthy each added three goals apiece.
Adelphi: Adelphi recorded a 22-7 victory over
Georgian Court in its only contest of the week. Three players
registered four goals each led by junior Rachel Ray who added six
assists in the win. Ray's 10 point performance ties the Adelphi
school record for points in a single game. The Panthers return to
action this Thursday, as they open their conference schedule at St.
Thomas Aquinas.
C.W. Post: C.W. Post won its fourth game of the
season with a 20-9 win over Bryant University on Mar. 22. The
Pioneers scored 11 first-half goals and finished the game
outscoring the Bulldogs, 5-1. Senior midfielder Mallory Poole
and junior attacker Jaclyn Napoli each recorded five goals in the
game while senior midfielder Elaine Williams scored four first-half
goals. The Pioneers outshot the Bulldogs by a 38-18 margin
and held a 25-19 advantage ground balls. C.W. Post opens
conference play at the University of New Haven on Mar. 25 and will
host NE-10 schools Southern Connecticut on Mar. 27 and Southern New
Hampshire on Mar. 30.
Dowling: The Golden Lions had a 1-1 week, with
a 22-9 victory over Lees McRae and dropping 8-16 to #2
Limestone. Dowling was led by Freshmen Kelly Cefalu (East
Islip, NY / East Islip HS) who had an 11 point week (8G, 3A) and
averaged 5 draw controls. Dowling starts ECC competition this
week with a match-up against Molloy on Wednesday and returns home
Friday for a non-conference game against Southern New
Hampshire.
Molloy: The Lady Lions went 1-1 on the week with a
18-4 non-conference victory over Wilmington and a 10-6 loss to the
University of New Haven. Kristina Wargo recorded five goals
for the week, while Erin Brady had two goals and five
assists. Kristin Lang and Rebecca LaFlare each notched four
goals.
