Sep 11, 2008

Bridgeport, CT- University of Bridgeport Director of Athletics Jay Moran announced today that Tricia Zubrowski has joined the Department of Athletics staff as the head coach of the Purple Knights' women's lacrosse program that will begin play in the Spring of 2010.  Zubrowski comes to UB from St. Joseph College in West Hartford, CT where she has served as head coach since the Blue Jays became a varsity program in 2005.

Said Moran, "We are delighted to have Tricia join the University of Bridgeport and our athletic department.  She brings to UB the knowledge and enthusiasm that is necessary to start a new varsity program from the ground up.  Having gone through the experience of building a new program at St. Joseph, I'm confident she will use all the lessons learned there to recruit and retain the kind of quality student-athletes that will help make Bridgeport women's lacrosse a respected program."

"I'm excited to become a part of the athletic tradition that University of Bridgeport has built over the years," said Zubrowski. "The addition of women's lacrosse shows a strong commitment by the University's administration to the athletic department as a whole.  My goal is to develop a program that can compete with some of the best Division II programs in the nation that are part of our conference (the East Coast Conference).  I'm eager to get started recruiting and look forward to putting our first team in the field in 2010."

A 2001 graduate of Saint Joseph College, Zubrowski earned her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a minor in Information Technology.  While an undergrad at SJC, Tricia was a member of the Blue Jays' soccer team and captained the squad during the 2000 season.  In 2006, she earned a Masters Degree in Special Education also from Saint Joseph College.

With addition of women's lacrosse and men's swimming next year, the University of Bridgeport will increase its total athletic offerings to a total of 13 varsity programs.
