
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Nov. 4, 2007) – Freshman forward Ivana
Babic (Haninge, Sweden) scored four goals to lead C.W. Post past
Dowling College, 5-0, at the East Coast Conference women’s
soccer final Sunday evening.
C.W. Post improves its overall record to 16-1-2, matching its
single-season total wins record set in 1999. Dowling falls to
15-6-0 on the season.
Babic’s first goal was scored in the 22nd minute on a long
pass through the middle from freshman midfielder Jackie Sousa
(North Reading, Mass.). She followed up with the second goal of the
game in the 32nd minute on a pass from junior forward Maria
Sonnerborg (Bjarred, Sweden).
Sonnerborg scored her 12th goal of the season in the 35th minute on
a pass from freshman defender Anna Svensson (Stockholm,
Sweden).
Babic completed the hat trick in the second half in the 52nd minute
on a long pass up the middle from Sonnerborg and freshman defender
Katie Weiland (Ocean City, N.J.).
Babic added her fourth goal of the game in the 64th minute on a
rebound shot off sophomore forward Melissa Pascarella (Sayville,
N.Y.).
Dowling had an opportunity to get on the board in the 81st minute
when Lauren Carbonaro drilled a shot into the left corner but a
defensive save was made by sophomore defender Caitlin Mullady
(Hauppauge, N.Y.) when she kicked the ball back out.
In all, Babic recorded seven total shots, including six shots on
goal. The Pioneers outshot the Lions, 19-11, in the game and held a
4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Kim Yacenda (Greenlawn, N.Y.) made five saves in
goal to record her 14th win and sixth shutout of the season.
Following the completion of the game, Babic was named the
tournament’s Most Valuable Player.

at the upcoming NCAA Northeast Regionals tournament, to be
announced by the women’s soccer committee.
