
Queens, NY – Jessie Franklin, Kirby Reiss, and Maria
Perevezentseva all notched singles victories at the third, fourth
and sixth flights respectively, helping top seeded Queens College
past second seeded Concordia to capture the 2007 East Coast
Conference women’s tennis championship Thursday afternoon at
Queens.
The championship was the fifth consecutive team tournament title
for the Lady Knights (10-1), after recently clinching their seventh
straight regular season title.
Franklin took the No. 3 singles matchup, topping Concordia’s
Adeline Brennan, 7-5, 6-0, while Reiss topped Amy Boyd 6-1, 6-1 and
Perevezentseva defeated Sabrina Hager, 6-2, 6-0.
Concordia’s Somadi Druker topped Alyssa Morra in the No. 1
singles flight, 6-3, 6-0 for the Clippers, who moved to 7-2
overall.
Queens took two of three doubles matches. The Lady Knights’
tandem of Laura Mocodeanu and Reiss along with Jen Merideth and
Perevezentseva earned 8-0 and 8-4 victories, at No. 2 and No. 3
doubles, respectively. Druker and Celise Sensaker teamed for a 9-7
win at No. 1 doubles for Concordia.
The ECC season does not end with the team tournament, as flight
champions will be crowned over the coming weekend. The two-day
tournament takes place on the Queens campus, beginning Saturday and
concluding Sunday afternoon.
