Queens Unanimously Tabbed Women’s Tennis Preseason Favorite
Central Islip, N.Y. - The Queens College women’s tennis team has been selected the preseason favorite for the 2010 season as voted unanimously by the league’s coaches. Knights’ senior Laura Mocodeanu was named the Preseason Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
The Knights earned all seven first place votes for a total of 49 points to take the top spot on the poll. Queens claimed both the ECC Regular Season and Tournament titles last year with a perfect record in conference play. They went on to secure a bid the NCAA Tournament, advancing through to the Round of 16 and finishing the season with a 21-4 overall record.
Dowling collected 42 points to earn the No. 2 spot and C.W. Post follows at No. 3 with a total of 32 points.
Mocodeanu was named the 2010 ECC Player of the Year and is ranked sixth in singles in the East Region. She boasted a 21-4 record in the top flight singles and was 18-4 in doubles at the No. 1 spot.
