Queens, N.Y. - For the fourth consecutive season, the NYIT women's tennis faced Queens College in the East Coast Conference Championship, hosted at the Queens College Tennis Center, Saturday afternoon. After falling behind 2-1 in doubles action, the Bears came back to win a 5-2 decision and earn the championship crown.
Justyna Krol and Alessia Rossetti earned the first point for NYIT at the first flight defeating the duo of Sumeera Kamil and Andrea Samson 8-1. Queens College came back to even the score at 1-1 with a win at No. 3 doubles as they earned an 8-4 vicotry over Paulina Velasquez and Alexandra Borgenhoff and furthered their lead with an 8-3 win over Gabriela Siembab and Melanie Benyadi.
Despite falling behind 2-1 in doubles action, NYIT came back to win the next four singles matches with Velasquez, Borgenhoff, Siembab and Rossetti all earning two-set victories at No. 6, 4, 5, 1. The Bears posted a 5-2 victory over Queens to earn their fourth consecutive ECC Championship.
