LIU Post's Joshua Loeschorn headlined 12 All-Region selections from the East Coast Conference as the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) East Region Pitcher of the Year.
Loeschorn, the ECC Pitcher and Rookie of the Year, earns the honor after finishing his debut season with a 10-0 record with three saves and a 1.34 earned run average over 80.2 innings pitched. Loeschorn was also a consensus All-Region First Team selection after earning a spot on the ABCA, Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA), and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) lists.
Joining Loeschorn as a consensus All-Region First Team honoree is EJ Cumbo of NYIT. Cumbo, the ECC Player of the Year, helped lead NYIT to its first-ever East Region Championship by ranking second in all of Division II with a .453 batting average. The redshirt-freshman outfielder also smacked 13 doubles and seven homeruns to drive in 44 runs.
Nine others from the ECC were named to one of the three All-Region lists. NYIT's John LaRocca, LIU Post's James Varela, and Mercy's John Mooradian were listed on all three teams. Mooradian was a First Team pick for the D2CCA and NCBWA while Varela garnered First Team honors on the ABCA list.
LIU Post standouts Anthony Vaglica and Michael Manzione both earned Second Team accolades on two of the three publications. Vaglica was on the D2CCA and NCBWA list, while Manzione was on the ABCA and NCBWA.
Luis Grullart of Mercy (D2CCA Second Team), Jon Strauss of Queens (NCBWA Honorable Mention), and Ryan Kuskowksi (ABCA Second Team) and DJ Masuck (ABCA Second Team) of NYIT were all listed on one All-Region Team.
In addition, LIU Post head coach Mike Gaffney was named the East Region Coach of the Year by the NCBWA. Gaffney, who was also the ECC Coach of the Year, led the Pioneers to ECC regular season and tournament championships.
